What are the system requirements for DataSuite? #
To ensure stable and high-performance operation of the DataSuite, the following system requirements regarding hardware and operating system must be met:
Component | Recommendation |
---|---|
Processor | Dual-core, 4 cores or more recommended |
RAM | At least 4 GB, 8–16 GB recommended |
Storage | SSD recommended |
Operating System | Windows 10, 11 or Server 2016–2022 |
Note: These DataSuite system requirements are minimum values. In more complex scenarios, such as with multiple controllers, triggers, or large volumes of data, a more powerful setup is recommended.
Which Windows versions are supported by DataSuite? #
DataSuite supports all modern Windows versions starting from Windows 10 (64-bit):
- Windows 10 and 11
- Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022
Not supported:
- DataSuite does not support Linux operating systems.
- Windows on ARM processors is officially not supported.
Can DataSuite be used on virtual machines (VMs)? #
Yes, DataSuite can be installed on virtual machines such as VMware or Hyper-V.
However, caution is advised when using code-based licenses: Changes to the VM’s hardware configuration may invalidate the license. For such setups, we recommend using the floating license (USB dongle) together with a USB dongle server, e.g., the SEH myUTN-50a.
Secure operation of DataSuite #
Beyond the technical system requirements, secure and stable deployment of DataSuite in production environments is crucial.
IT security when using DataSuite #
- Keep Windows and all installed software up to date
- Enable and maintain a firewall and antivirus protection
- Avoid unprotected internet access, especially when using e-mail, SMS, or Telegram notifications
Network separation: Isolate machine and corporate networks #
In industrial environments, we recommend using a PC with two Ethernet interfaces, such as Eth0 for the machine network and Eth1 for the corporate network. This allows a clear network separation between production and IT infrastructure.
Both networks should use different IP address ranges to minimize risks and ensure stable communication with controllers, especially with direct PLC connections or OPC UA communication.
Implementation of this setup should be planned in cooperation with your IT department or system integrator. Depending on your IT strategy, using VLANs may also be advisable.
Availability and fail-safety #
- Use industry-grade PC hardware
- Install an uninterruptible power supply (UPS)
- Use high-quality network cables and switches
- Optionally run DataSuite on a centrally managed VM in your data center
